When I left the educational technology realm, it was an exciting time. We were just moving into the world of student blogging, podcasting and virtual learning. The cloud was just beginning to accumulate in the atmosphere of technology. From techno facilitator, I was immediately thrust into homemaking facilitator. Though I was blessed to have had five years raising my three daughters, and relearning the art of cooking, organization, and being domestic, I always knew one day I would head back into a much different world. As we all know, in technology years, one year is like 7, so I found myself clinging to a lifestyle I had become so familiar with. There wasn't much need for a mommy of three busy toddlers to use cutting edge educational software, so I turned to social media and other creative websites to fuel my creativity and community bugs. There is definitely some truth that your children will keep you young. Thus as I found myself on the verge of returning back to work with some semblance of what was available to schools and students. My own NOW school age children reminded me how "cool" technology was and in helping them, it helped me remain present and current. On April 1st, 2014 (the irony of this is not lost on me) I returned back to work for Comal ISD as a technology facilitator. And because technology doesn't wait, it was full speed ahead for me as I jumped on a fast track to learn as much as possible in as little time needed. It was refreshing to me that many of the "old ways" of doing things were pretty much the same, besides a fresh coat of paint and shiny new features. The best revelation for me is that the students were still as eager as ever to complete tasks using technology, and how sharp they were at picking the basic skills up. I have always believed the best teachers must be the most receptive students. Many of my most memorable moments in education are where true collaboration between teacher and learner occurred. I am looking forward to what this new chapter of my life has in store for me, and look forward to accompanying the 21st learner into an exciting time for education.
